Full Description:

Brentwood, CA – January 18, 2006 – Planning for the 2nd Annual Relay For Life of Far East County is well under way. The Relay For Life in Brentwood held last July at Sunset Park received the “Top Relay Baby Award” for raising more funds than any other first-year Relay For Life in California- a total of $133,639.00. The Relay For Life in Brentwood also placed 9th overall in the nation as a “Top Relay Baby.” Building on last year’s tremendous success, the 2006 Relay For Life of Far East County will be held on June 24 & 25 at the Sunset Park Athletic Complex in Brentwood.

What are the Goals?
100/250/300…More than 100 teams, raise more than a quarter million dollars for the American Cancer Society and involve more than 300 cancer survivors in the 24 hour event.

When is the Kick-Off Event?
Those interested in learning more about Relay For Life, forming a team, registering as a cancer survivor, or learning about how to become a corporate sponsor are invited to attend the 2006 Relay For Life Kick-Off Celebration at 7 PM on Tuesday, February 7, 2006. The Brentwood Community Center is located at 730 3rd Street in downtown Brentwood. New participants, returning teams, survivors, donors and volunteers are welcome to attend. Get involved and make a difference in the fight against cancer and celebration of life.

What is Relay For Life and How Can I Help?
Relay For Life is a team-based community fundraiser that supports the work of the American Cancer Society. Teams gather together overnight to not only walk the relay, but participate in other fun activities such as carnival games, entertainment activities, the lighting of the luminaries in honor or memory of cancer patients and survivors and get the opportunity to meet other participants and cancer survivors. Team-raised funds help cancer victims, families of victims and survivors by helping to provide support services, advocacy, research, education and valuable information by raising money for ACS.

This is not an athletic event. It is for anyone who wants to participate from children to seniors. Teams are created from businesses, clubs, families, friends, hospitals, churches, schools and service organizations. The teams raise money and are awarded prizes based on the most money raised, the most team spirit and other criteria.

For more information about the 2006 Relay For Life of Far East County please call Tisha Singleton, Community Development Manager with the American Cancer Society, at (209) 941-2676 (option 3) or Event Co-Chairs Dave Wahl at (925) 634-1812 or Wendy Robertson at (925) 679-9915.

In 2005, more than 4,600 Relays were held across the country and around the world raising more than $350,000,000 for the American Cancer Society.
