Nothing represents the holiday season more than the Christmas tree. It is the focal point of home decorating and the ultimate symbol of this most beloved holiday of adults and children alike.
Unfortunately, however, Christmas trees can prove to be fire hazards and are responsible for millions of dollars in damage to homes each year, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
Thanks in part to increased public information, the problem is less serious today than in years past, according to Bill Weisgerber, interim fire chief of the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District.
